Baku-APA. The United States on Thursday blacklisted additional companies and individuals for evading sanctions against Iran and supporting its nuclear program, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The U.S. accused five entities and individuals of attempting to evade international sanctions against Iran and ten others of involving in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) -related materiel, said a statement issued by the U.S. Departments of the Treasury.

The action on Thursday, which is the first of its kind since the P5+1 countries, namely the U.S., Britain, Russia, China, France and Germany, reached a first step agreement with Iran in Geneva in November, prohibits transactions between the designees and any U.S. person, and freezes any assets they may currently have, according to the statement.

The conduct of these entities and individuals demonstrates Iran 's extensive efforts to conceal its evasive activities by using front companies in foreign countries to deceive foreign suppliers to support its illicit proliferation and evasion activities, according to the statement.

The statement reaffirmed Obama administration's commitment to vigorously enforcing the U.S. sanctions regime and to exposing Tehran's efforts to use deceptive practices and front companies to further its nuclear program.

"Today's actions should be a stark reminder to businesses, banks, and brokers everywhere that we will continue relentlessly to enforce our sanctions, even as we explore the possibility of a long-term, comprehensive resolution of our concerns with Iran's nuclear program," said David S. Cohen, under secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
