Baku-APA. U.S. military forces have captured Latif Mehsud, a senior commander with Pakistani Taliban, in an operation, the U.S. Department of State said on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"I can confirm that U.S. forces did capture TTP (the Tehrik-e- Taliban Pakistan) terrorist leader Latif Mehsud in a military operation," said State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf in a daily briefing.
Mehsud is a senior commander in the Pakistani Taliban and served as a trusted confidant of the group's leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, she said.
Harf, however, said she did not have any details of how, when or where Mehsud was captured.
Harf said the TTP had claimed responsibility for the attempted bombing of Times Square in 2010 and were behind attacks on U.S. diplomats in Pakistan. The group has vowed to attack the U.S. homeland again, she added.
