Baku-APA. Two miners were killed in a coal mine accident in the U.S. state of West Virginia Monday night, APA reports quoting local media.

Mine officials said a "coal outburst" - which involved the violent spewing of rock and coal from the mine - led to "ground failure" at around 8:30 p.m. local time (0030 GMT Tuesday), according to the report.

State inspectors were at the scene, and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration was conducting a full investigation.

West Virginia was the site of one of the worst mining disasters in recent memory in the country. In 2010, more than 29 miners were killed in an explosion at a local mine.
