Ohio shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

The incident happened in Butler County, Hamilton Saturday morning, the Associated Press reported.

A resident said he woke up to the sound of gunfire and saw a man exchanging shots with a police officer, the report said. The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

The University of Cincinnati Medical Center Air Care helicopter was dispatched to the scene for the officer, who radioed in his own report that he was shot in the head, according to WCPO.

Police said the unidentified 44-year-old officer was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Critics blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in the United States for the high rate of gun violence in the country.

A scientific study published by the American Journal of Medicine in September found that the rate of gun violence is positively correlated with gun ownership rates.
