Baku-APANikolai Bordyuzha, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Thursday said he appreciated the military-industrial complex of Belarus and called the country an outpost of CSTO in the west.

Belarusian air defense system can protect western CSTO member states if necessary, he said in a news conference, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

He said that the united air defense system of Russia and Belarus provides a very reliable security shield. "Such a system is capable, if necessary, of protecting the airspace of Belarus, which is an outpost of the CSTO member states in the West."

The secretary general also said that such systems are being set up in Central Asia, in Caucasus. "It is the essence of CSTO efforts: the creation of systems to enable complete stability and security of our states," Bordyuzha said.

On the situation in Ukraine, Bordyuzha expressed concerns about the statements made by the NATO administration on sending experts to Ukraine. He said CSTO and NATO should not interfere in the situation.

"It's counterproductive and it does not help stabilization of the situation," he added. "Everything should be decided by the people. It's the only thing needed to bring peace and calm in Ukraine," Bordyuzha said.

CSTO is an intergovernmental military alliance. It included six post-Soviet states, namely Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Belarus.
