The resignation of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt came as a surprise to some members of US President Donald Trump's administration, APA reports citing Bloomberg.
According to him, although personnel changes before midterm elections are common practice, Leavitt's departure "caught some in the White House by surprise." Trump, Bloomberg notes, is in no rush to find a replacement for Leavitt. Briefings with members of the presidential cabinet are planned before the new person is confirmed, as was done earlier this year when Leavitt was absent from work due to the birth of her second child.
In addition to Leavitt, several other senior US administration officials have recently resigned, including Deputy National Security Advisor Andy Baker and White House Legislative Director James Bride. According to the agency, "the string of resignations threatens to create a vacuum in Trump's team, making it difficult to find a replacement." Meanwhile, Bloomberg notes, "more senior officials are said to be considering leaving within the next few months."
