Iran must significantly reduce its uranium enrichment capabilities to end the war with the United States, US Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with Reuters, APA reports.
“If you don't want a nuclear weapon, then why do you need fuel enriched to 60%? If you want to demonstrate that you intend to give up creating a nuclear weapon, don't produce highly enriched fuel. This is a very important and fundamental point in ending the conflict,” Vance said.
He noted that the United States remains open to reaching an agreement but said Washington would require concrete concessions from Iran regarding its nuclear program.
“We are not going to substitute words for actions,” the vice president stressed.
According to Vance, one of the factors complicating the situation is uncertainty in Washington over who ultimately makes decisions in Tehran.
He said the United States is holding talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. However, Vance said it remains unclear how much influence they wield within the Iranian leadership.
“One of the things we're paying attention to is that it's not entirely clear how decisions are made in their country,” Vance added.
