The United States intends to impose sanctions against a group of Lebanese politicians and security officials associated with the Shiite organization Hezbollah, a State Department source told Al Jazeera, APA reports.

"Those targeted by the restrictions are hindering efforts to disarm Hezbollah and acting to the detriment of the Lebanese state," the source stated. According to him, the sanctions affect eight Lebanese citizens and one Iranian diplomat.

Among them are members of parliament Hassan Fadlallah, Ibrahim al-Musawi, Hussein Hajj Hassan, and former minister Mohammed Fneish. The list of security officials includes Colonel Samer Hammadeh, head of army intelligence in the southern suburbs of Beirut; Brigadier General Hattar Nasreddine, head of the analytical center of the Lebanese Ministry of Interior's General Security Directorate; Ahmed Baalbeki, head of security for the Shiite Amal movement, an ally of Hezbollah; and Ahmed Safavi, the movement's military commander in southern Lebanon.

As a State Department source emphasized, "sanctions will be taken against all officials who have infiltrated Lebanese government structures and cooperated with Hezbollah."

According to the channel, Washington has announced a $10 million reward for information leading to the destruction of Hezbollah's financial mechanisms.
