US defence company Lockheed Martin is exploring the possibility of producing missiles for Patriot air defence systems in Europe for delivery to Ukraine.
Company Vice President Jason Reynolds made the remarks in an interview with Defense News.
He said Lockheed Martin was ready to discuss PAC-3 missile production with Ukraine.
“The main question is whether it is possible to build a factory capable of operating in a combat zone,” Reynolds said.
The company is considering initially producing the missiles in other European countries and then supplying them to Ukraine.
Reynolds also did not rule out supplying Kyiv with PAC-3 ACE missiles, which are cheaper than PAC-3 MSE missiles. He said several countries were interested in producing the PAC-3 ACE variant.
“If we can establish the supply chain first and then move production to Ukraine, that would be a sensible step,” he said.
Defense News noted that Germany was among the countries offering to host PAC-3 missile production.
Lockheed Martin could cooperate with Germany’s Diehl Defence on the project. A representative of the German company confirmed that discussions were underway.
