Azerbaijan’s foreign and defense ministers meet with U.S. secretaries of state and defense - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov have met with the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James Mattis in Brussels, Belgium.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell, Senior Director of the National Security Council Fiona Hill, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the U.S. Elin Suleymanov and Head of Mission of Azerbaijan to NATO Gaya Mammadov also attended the meeting, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States.

Minister Mammadyarov stressed the importance of retreated support expressed for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in the final communiqué of NATO Brussels Summit.

During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on regional issues, and the U.S. side thanked Azerbaijan for its support for NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan and in the fight against terrorism.

Mammadyarov provided information about his meeting with the Armenian foreign minister in Brussels on July 11 with the participation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.

Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov invited their U.S. counterparts to visit Azerbaijan, to which they gladly agreed to.
