The fourth OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers kicked off in Baku on April 18.

The fourth OIC Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers was held by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports with the joint organization of the OIC, the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC) and the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), APA reports.

The event began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.

Turkey's Youth and Sports Minister Osman Askın Bak, who chaired the 3rd OIC conference, announced Azerbaijan taking over chairmanship of the conference.

Later on, the chairmanship of the OIC Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers for the next two years was handed over to Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov.

Rahimov noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with the OIC.

"Azerbaijan is doing its utmost for the development of youth in Islamic countries, and we hold various events about the role of youth in interstate cooperation. 2017 was declared ‘The Year of Islamic Solidarity’ in Azerbaijan. On top of that, the IV Islamic Solidarity Games were held in the country,” he said.

About 40 delegations representing OIC countries, youth and sport ministers, chairpersons of state agencies and committees, as well as leading international organizations are taking part in the event.

During the event, the OIC ministers are expected to adopt resolutions on youth strategy, youth activities and sports, decide on a date and a venue for the fifth conference, and adopt a final declaration.
