Currently, the Caspian region is facing several challenges due to the negative impact of unresolved environmental issues, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva said at the five-way meeting of the representatives of the Prosecutor General's Offices of the Caspian littoral states on “Environmental Violations in the Caspian Sea Aquatoria: Strategies of Prosecuting Authorities to Protect the Marine Environment” held in Baku, APA reports.
The Deputy Minister stated that along with anthropogenic impacts such as the depletion of bioresources and pollution of the marine environment, the long-term decrease in sea levels as a result of climate change also leads to the degradation of marine ecosystems: "The matters of the protection of the Caspian Sea's surrounding environment and the sustainable use of natural resources are priority directions in the national policies of the Caspian littoral countries.
It's not a coincidence that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has stated in his speeches that the current state of the environment of the Caspian Sea and the dynamics of the lowering of the sea level cause concern, that we are interested in expanding cooperation in solving these problems."
