The recent tripartite meeting between the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran in Ankara is the result of the Astana agreement which necessitates coordination between these three countries.

The statement came from Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Bashar Jaafari, who is attending the Non-Aligned Movement mid-term Ministerial Conference in Baku, APA reports.

Jafari said that Turkey violated the terms of the Astana agreement by sending troops to Idlib, while it was supposed to send only lightly-armed police forces to monitor Idlib Province and control terrorist groups.

"We hope that Turkey will be pressured within the trilateral mechanism to withdraw its troops from Syria. Turkey's Afrin operation is a military aggression which violates the UN Security Council resolutions concerning Syria as well as the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement,” he added.
