The border services of the United States and Azerbaijan have been cooperating since 1999 to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, said US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta, APA reported.
During this period of time, the US has provided assistance to Azerbaijan in the amount of over $26 million by supplying equipment and carrying out exercises, noted the ambassador. “Our goal is to assist Azerbaijan in more reliable protection of borders,” he added.
“The borders should be open for the development of trade relations, but we should be vigilant with regard to people who are engaged in smuggling biological and chemical weapons, as well as weapons of mass destruction,” stressed the diplomat.
