Elchin Babayev: Influence of geomagnetic storm on Earth is not strong

The ongoing geomagnetic storm on the Earth is one of the regular recurrent mid-level storms, Elchin Babayev, deputy director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), told APA.

According to Babayev, the storm will return to its previous indicators the day after tomorrow.

He noted that it is not one of the strongest storms, as it is reported, but one of the regular recurrent mid-level storms.

Babayev said that as a result of the processes currently taking place on the Sun, the next geomagnetic waves continue.

“The geomagnetic storm of G1 category occurred During the day, the storm is expected to shift to the G2 category,” he said adding. “Such conclusion is drawn due to the analysis of complex processes taking place occurring on Earth, near-earth orbit and in the Earth's magnetosphere. At present, the Kp index is equal to 5. The maximum Kp (9) is recorded rarely. It happened only once or twice during the 11-year cycle of the Sun.”
