The Baku Shopping Festival has kicked off in Azerbaijan’s capital for the first time.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and other relevant structures are involved in organizing the Baku Shopping Festival which will last until May 10, APA reported.

The purpose of holding trade festival is to increase the influx of tourists from abroad and develop the local tourism.

These festivals also provide for encouragement of the tax system, improvement of tax administration through the application of the VAT refund system for the goods not intended for production or commercial purposes and which were purchased by individuals during the trade festivals in Azerbaijan, the development of a system for servicing taxpayers. During the festival, the Tax Free system will be applied for the first time regarding the citizens of Azerbaijan.

During the festival, every foreigner or Azerbaijani citizen doing shopping worth of 100 manats and more will be able to use the tax free system.

The festival’s website www.bakushopfest.com is available in Azerbaijani, English, Russian and Arabic.

During the festival, daily entertainment events will be held in shopping malls, Fountain Square and the Seaside National Park. DJs and animators will perform, concerts, flash mobs, mascots’ parades, dances, acrobats’ performances, film screenings will be held. Information kiosks will be installed in the capital's central streets, hotels and shopping centers during the festival. Call Center will function in various languages. Stores taking part in the festival as participants will have "Tax Free" sign.
