Azerbaijan, Austria end joint exercises for search and rescue ops during avalanches

The joint exercises for ski training, search and rescue operations during avalanches which were launched on February 12 within the framework of cooperation between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations and Austria’s Federal Ministry of the Interior ended on February 19.

Rescuers of the ministry’s North-West Regional Center, Special Risk Rescue Service and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic were involved in the exercises, the ministry told APA.

The exercises were consisted of theoretical and practical parts. During the exercises, the staff were taught the use of special tools in search and rescue of those trapped under avalanches, rules of treatment in extreme conditions, orienteering, mountain skiing and transfer of the injured.

Moreover, dog handlers and specially trained dogs of the Special Risk Rescue Service’s Cynology were involved in search and rescue of those trapped under avalanches.

In the end, the ministry’s personnel and Austrian specialists held theoretical and practical exams for rescuers on training topics and presented certificates to them.
