Explosion occurs in Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline

Baku – APA. An explosion occurred in Turkish part of Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. APA reports quoting “Hürriyet” newspaper that an explosion occurred in pipeline’s part crossing from Sarıkamış region of Turkey’s Kars province on May 29. The fire followed the explosion and the fire’s height reached 100m.

The firemen and employees of the law-enforcement bodies were involved in the site. The gas transfer was temporarily stopped for fire extinguishing. The explosion wave broke the windows of many houses in Sarıkamış. The population thought it was a quake and went to the streets.

Representative of executive power of Sarıkamış Turan Ermiş said the fire was extinguished: “At first we receive information that the explosion occurred on Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Then we determined that the explosion occurred in Shahdeniz gas pipeline. The situation is under control now”.

The investigation is carried out into the incident. The version that the incident was committed by terrorists is not ruled out.
