"There are a million people displaced this year and the projection is another million will be displaced inside Syria between now and the end of the year if the violence continues to escalate," said Yacoub El Hillo, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Syria, on Saturday.

El Hillo added that urgent action was needed to resolve the escalating conflict in Syria or refugees will keep flowing out of the Middle East region.

“Unless something big is done to resolve this conflict through political means, the human train that has started moving out of Syria and the neighborhood will continue to be running for many months to come," El Hillo said.

He also called for greater international support to help Syrians survive winter in their own homeland, warning that a possible harsh winter could escalate the situation in the war-hit Arab country.

Raising the alarm about shortage of food for Syrians, El Hillo said that the World Food Program will have “zero dollars to provide food to 5 million people inside Syria” as of November.
The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared up in March 2011, has claimed more than 250,000 lives up until now, according to reports.
The United Nations says the militancy, which has escalated due to operations by Takfiri terrorists groups such as Daesh, has also displaced more than 7.2 million Syrians internally, and compelled over four million others to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon.
The Daesh terrorist group has also been carrying out different types of gruesome crimes against various religious and ethnic groups in Syria, forcing Syrians to flee their homes for their lives.
