Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. “I look forward to working with you to build a more promising future Azerbaijan deserves,” Robert Cekuta, the new ambassador of the United States of America to Azerbaijan, said in a video message to Azerbaijanis.

Robert Cekuta said he feels honored by US President Barack Obama’s decision to nominate him to serve in Azerbaijan.

“I look forward to the day I will go to Azerbaijan. I’m very happy to talk to you from Riggs Library, Georgetown University, where I began my studies in international relations. I’ve been a US diplomat for over 36 years, working all over the world. I’m deeply honored by President Obama’s decision to nominate me to serve in Azerbaijan. Since Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991, our two countries have built a strong partnership and shared many of the same goals. Regional security and economic growth, especially youth employment, are the two top priorities in our relationship. The third is democratic development. All three are key to Azerbaijan’s stability and essential aspects of our bilateral ties. As an ambassador, I look forward to working with all Azerbaijanis to move on these priorities, and deepen and broaden our people-to-people ties. By building a mutual understanding, we can bring our countries even closer together. My wife, Ann, will be joining me in Azerbaijan. And we look forward to tasting Shah Plov and exploring your rich history and culture. What do you think we should see first? Besh Barmaq? Yanar Dagh? Gobustan? Let us see your thoughts on the embassy’s Facebook page, where we can also share ideas on how to enrich the US-Azerbaijan relationship,” said R. Cekuta.

Note that, the ambassador used several sentences in Azerbaijani.

The diplomat is due to arrive in Azerbaijan on February 12.
