Ruling AKP seeks official state emblem for Turkey

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has made such a proposal, APA reports citing Turkish sources.

If the proposal is approved, a commission will be established at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to designate the state emblem. The commission will finalize the new emblem’s design.

Turkey hasn’t had a state emblem since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. In 1925, an emblem design depicting the Bozkurt (Gray Wolf) prepared by artist Namiq Ismail won the contest for the designation of the emblem. But it was not approved nor used.

Note that, Turkey is one of few countries in the world that does not have a state emblem. Instead of an emblem, Turkey uses the state emblems of different state organizations.
