President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has addressed an appeal to the Armenian Patriarch of Türkiye Sahak Maşalyan regarding the "events of 1915", APA's Türkiye correspondent reports.

The message reads: "Today, I once again remember with respect the Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives under the harsh conditions imposed by the First World War and offer my condolences to their grandchildren. I wish Allah’s mercy upon all the Ottoman society who died or were martyred as a result of confrontations, rebellions, gang movements, and terrorist acts. The devastation caused by the First World War in the Ottoman lands left deep traces in our memories. Continuing the environment of peace and tranquility inherited from our ancestors is only possible with our joint efforts."

The message also noted that Türkiye has not and will not let any Armenian citizen be isolated, marginalized, and feel like a second-class citizen in their homeland:

"It is important for us to address the events of history with the guidance of reason, conscience, and science, without giving room to radical discourses, marginalization, and expressions of hatred. Building empathy without separating the events engraved in our national memory from each other will also prevent the seeds of hatred from taking root."
