Baku. Rufat Ahmadzadeh – APA. The next meeting of the working group on the legal status of the Caspian Sea is scheduled to be held in November-December in Baku, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said at a press conference, APA reports.

He said that during the meeting, the working group of the deputy foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states will discuss the joint statement and agreements signed in Astrakhan and develop a draft convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea basing on the fundamental principles established by the heads of state.

The minister said military activity in the Caspian Sea has always been discussed as a top issue, adding that it’s important to ensure a stable balance of weapons.

“The Baku summit played a big part until the Astrakhan summit. Azerbaijan has always been active in this area and demonstrated a sincere desire. After this, we’ll spare no efforts, either. We hope all the important issues will be included in the draft convention within the next 2 years.

The minister noted that the issue of peace and security in the Caspian basin continues to be the main topic of discussion.

"We are in favor of peace in the Caspian Sea. The countries need to be careful while organizing marine defense and be based on balanced armament. The issue of arming and the security factor are also reflected in the joint statement. However, a balanced formula is yet to be prepared. This will be dealt with by the common commission", the diplomat added.
