First biometric passport of Azerbaijani citizen handed to President Ilham Aliyev

Baku – APA. Ceremony was held to hand to President Ilham Aliyev the first biometric passport of the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan. APA reports that several measures have been taken for timely fulfillment of the requirements of the “State Program on establishment of biometric identification system of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2007-2012” confirmed with the order issued by President on February 13, 2007, as well as order #686, dated to July 17, 2012, on amendments to the Law “On exit from, entry into the country and passports”. Normative-legal base regulating identification documents was improved, description, specification and examples of regular, service and diplomatic passports were approved under the order of the President dated to July 17, 2012.

Issuance of new-generation biometric passports started in the country on September 2 as the first biometric passport of the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan was handed to President Ilham Aliyev. Citizens will obtain their passports within ten, five working-days or one working-day depending on the state tax they will pay.
