The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, during his speech at the leaders’ session organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), described Azerbaijan’s “Baku White City” project, the Master Plan of the city of Aghdam, and its environmental initiatives as exemplary steps in the field of urban transformation, APA reports.
“I would like to particularly highlight the comprehensive urban transformation initiatives implemented by the government and people of Azerbaijan over the past 10 years. In particular, the ‘Baku White City’ project, the Master Plan of the city of Aghdam and the environmental measures implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev are commendable,” Dharambeer Gokhool noted.
According to him, these initiatives will make an important contribution to the discussions held within the framework of WUF13 and will help enrich the forum’s final outcomes.
The President of Mauritius added that housing is not only shelter, but also a fundamental need and a core element of human dignity. In his opinion, housing policy and urban planning should stand at the center of state policy in order to achieve sustainable human development.
