Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s tourism sector is projected to grow by 10% this year, said Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev.

According to him, due to the global financial crisis, growth in the tourism sector slightly slowed down.

“Of course, we can repeat last year’s 40% growth. This year Baku is delcared the capital of Islamic culture and a lot of events will take place. In this regard, we expect an increase in arrivals,” he added.

He also noted that H1N1 infection in many countries will not affect the tourism sector in Azerbaijan.

“H1N1 virus affected Mexico and Cuba with this process gradually moving to Europe. While the flow of tourists from these regions to Azerbaijan is low, the Ministry of Health still takes appropriate measures to prevent this virus entering our country,” he added.
