The scale of the problem requires further strengthening of international efforts, Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons and Chief of the State Security Service, Colonel General Ali Naghiyev, said at the Fourth International Conference held in Azerbaijan within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons, APA reports.
The Commission chairman said President Ilham Aliyev’s initiative to establish a special mechanism on missing persons within the UN is of great importance in this regard: “Such a mechanism could contribute to search efforts, information exchange, the development of forensic examination capabilities and support for families.
Our expectation from today’s discussions is concrete proposals: expanding access to reliable information, applying modern technologies, training specialists and regularly informing families. All activities must be carried out on the basis of respect for human dignity and international humanitarian law, without discrimination.
I want to assure the families of our missing citizens: none of our missing persons is forgotten. The State Commission will continue to mobilize all its capabilities and expand international cooperation to clarify their fate."
