Work is underway to provide Chernobyl sufferers with preferential housing quickly and they have been put on a waiting list, said Musa Guliyev, Chairman of the Labour and Social Policy Committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), during the discussion of the proposed amendments to the law "On the status and social protection of citizens who participated in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident and suffered as a result of that accident", APA reports.
The committee chairman said that so far, providing housing for internally displaced persons has been the main priority: "But from now on, work will be carried out to quickly provide Chernobyl disabled people with housing."
Musa Guliyev said that since the adoption of the law, one-time benefits have been replaced by the Presidential pension: "At the same time, disabled people also receive pensions in accordance with their degree of disability. In addition, an additional annual benefit is provided for their treatment."
