Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix to begin with packed schedule in Baku

The first day of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will begin with a packed schedule at the Baku City Circuit. Starting in the morning, Formula 2 and Formula 1 drivers will take to the track for the first free practice sessions of the weekend, the Baku City Circuit told APA.

The first session of the day will begin at 10:00 with Formula 2 free practice. During the 45-minute session, drivers will complete their first laps of the Baku City Circuit, check their car setups, and prepare for the day’s two qualifying sessions.

At 12:30, attention will turn to Formula 1. During the one-hour first free practice session, teams will test the technical characteristics of their cars and the durability of Pirelli tyres on the circuit’s challenging corners. The data collected during the session will play an important role in shaping the teams’ race strategies.

At 14:00 and 14:30, Formula 2 drivers will return to the track for two consecutive qualifying sessions. The starting positions for the sprint and main races will be determined following the qualifying sessions.

At 16:00, Formula 1 drivers will take to the track for the second free practice session. Teams will continue the work they began during the first session of the day, seeking to maximize the performance of their cars and find additional pace.

Note that since Formula 2 is the only support series competing as part of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, an expanded program will be implemented for this year’s Baku round of the series. The Formula 2 weekend will consist of one free practice session, two qualifying sessions, one sprint race, and two main races.

Alongside the action on the track, a music program will also await fans in the evening. World-renowned Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris will take the stage at Baku Crystal Hall as part of the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2026. Known for global hits such as “We Found Love,” “Summer,” and “One Kiss,” the artist is among Britain’s most successful dance music performers.
