Azerbaijan reveals population figures for Khankendi, Aghdara, and Khojaly

"Large-scale infrastructure projects are currently being carried out in the liberated territories. New highways and railways, airports, electricity and water supply systems are being established, and important projects are being implemented in the fields of economy, education, healthcare, public services, restoration of cultural heritage, and other areas. Despite the short period of time, significant results have been achieved in these fields. These territories are now hosting not only local but also important international events," said Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi, and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, Elchin Yusubov, during an event dedicated to the 5th anniversary of Victory in Karabakh, themed “Spiritual Values” held in the city of Khankendi, APA reports.

E. Yusubov also provided information about the phased and voluntary return of former internally displaced persons to the liberated territories within the framework of the “Great Return” program. According to him, currently, nearly 22,000 people have settled in the city of Khankendi, as well as in the Aghdara and Khojaly districts. Among them are not only former internally displaced persons but also employees of state and private institutions, as well as their family members. According to the plan, phased population resettlement is being carried out with restoration and repair works in the Kerkijahan settlement of Khankendi city, 11 villages in Khojaly district, and 7 villages in Agdere district. As a result, about 6,000 former internally displaced persons are expected to be settled in these residential areas.

At the same time, important steps have been taken in the region towards the restoration of the economy, ensuring employment, and expanding entrepreneurial activities. So far, investors have made investments exceeding 65 million manats in the liberated territories.

Note that the “Week of Spiritual Values” dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War in Karabakh is being held. The project is implemented jointly by the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions, Karabakh University, the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology under the Committee, and the Foundation for the Promotion of Spiritual Values. The main goal is to strengthen the national identity and patriotism awareness of young people and to increase their attachment to our historical-cultural heritage and national-spiritual values.
