Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The Health Ministry has made public the final list of drugs, which registration was annulled under the decision of the Pharmacologic Experts Council. Deputy Chairman of the Council, deputy chief of HR, science and education department of the Ministry Rauf Agayev told APA the names of the medicines:

1. Boric acid powder, pharmaceutical form (taking into account the toxic influence)
2. Bufexamac and Proctasan with composition of Bufexamac (taking into account the allergy fact)
3. Infusion ointments with composition of low-molecular polyvinylpyrrolidone (taking into account the high toxic influence)
4. Octagam (production has been stopped by the enterprise)
5. Buflomedil (production has been stopped because the drug causes neuro and cardio-toxicity)
6. Medicines with composition of Buflomedil – Irrodan and Dialon (for the abovementioned reason)
7. Gatifloxacin and the drugs with composition Gatifloxacin (production has been stopped because the drug cause hipo- and hiperglicemia )

Agayev says often there occurs an opinion among the population about that, medicines, used to be used in the medicine for a long time is not safe and harms human organism: ‘The researches conducted by scientists proves the erroneousness of such opinions. Such stereotype opinion has also occurred on boric acid for many years. As weak acid, boric acid is used in different spheres – in production of fertilizers and insecticides in agriculture, in fotocap works, in preparation of buffer solutions in chemistry and etc. at the end of the 19th century, when the scientists determined antiseptic impact of boric acid against microbes, this drug had been started to use widely in the medicine. Some features of this antiseptic – does not have smack and smell, does not spot on clothe, does not cause irritation in wounds – allowed people to use it at home. But antimicrobial impact of boric acid is repeatedly lower than other drugs.

Agayev noted that the researches and clinical observations in the whole world showed that boric acid has toxic impact on organism: ‘European and American researchers noted in their scientific articles the cases, which resulted with poisoning or death in children from the use of boric acid. The main reason of poisoning is that boric acid is excreted from kidneys in unchanged form. As function of kidneys is normal, the poisoning happens lightly, but in case if any problem occurs in the function of kidneys, this aid can cause internal heavy poisoning in the organism. In children, especially kids, functions of kidneys are weak and incompletely developed, that is why harmful impact of boric acid becomes stronger and its use increase the risk of poisoning. Thetefore, heavy poisoning and death facts occur in mostly kids. Taking all of these into account, from the 70s of the last century, boric acid is considered as toxic drug and measures are being taken in direction of limitation its use in the medicine. That is, in most countries, concentration of boric acid is limited at 1-3% and warning labels such as “only for external use", "can not be used in a wide range of skin damages”, "is not used for children" are indicated on the etiquettes of the drugs. At present, in most countries this medicine is used only as preservative in eye, ear, nose drops. Boric acid is not allowed use for children Up to 3 years of age. By taking all of these into consideration, use of boric acid in powder form has been banned in Azerbaijan and the medicine is allowed only with 1-3% concentration’.

‘In general, the control over the medicines with the composition of boric acid must be strengthened. Stuffing sheets of the medicines must explain the possible toxic results, the level of danger for different persons and etc’, added Agayev.

He also noted that Leiner and Teymourov ointments, produced in Azerbaijan, have boric acid component in their compositions, too: ‘These are the allowed medicines. But stuffing sheets of these drugs must show that use of it in wide area, open wound is dangerous. We once more will appeal the Azerfarm company in this regard, the company must intensify the control on the technology, show side-effects, contraindication in the stuffing sheets’.
