A three-year Memorandum of Understanding envisaging the expansion of the use of artificial intelligence technologies in education has been signed between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and OpenAI, the ministry told APA.
The document was signed in New York by Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev and Vice President of Education at OpenAI, Leah Belsky.
“The main objective of the new cooperation is to improve teaching and learning opportunities for teachers and students through the use of artificial intelligence technologies, organize the educational process in a more efficient and accessible manner, as well as develop approaches to the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence in educational institutions.
Within the framework of the cooperation, it is envisaged to develop AI-based teaching tools, conduct training for teachers and other education workers on the effective use of new technologies, as well as develop standards and methodological approaches for the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence in schools.
One of the main areas of cooperation is the development of the education management system for mathematics, natural sciences, and reading using OpenAI technologies. The new capabilities are expected to provide teachers with AI-based support in lesson preparation, the development of teaching materials, and student assessment. This is aimed at optimizing the time teachers spend on preparation and administrative work and enabling them to devote more time to direct work with students.
In addition, various artificial intelligence training programs are planned for teachers, students, and employees of educational institutions. Through a ‘training of trainers’ program, it is envisaged to strengthen the capacity of local specialists and trainers in the field of artificial intelligence.
The parties will also cooperate on developing methodological approaches, recommendations, and relevant frameworks for the safe, ethical, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education.”
It was noted that this is the second Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Science and Education and OpenAI. As part of the initial cooperation, the process of developing an adaptive learning platform was carried out.
