A ceremony was held in Baku for the allocation of land and the laying of the foundation stone for Saint John Paul II Church, APA reports.
The event was attended by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, who is visiting Azerbaijan for the occasion, Azerbaijan's Apostolic Prefect Vladimir Fekete, Ilgar Mukhtarov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Holy See, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Ramin Mammadov, and representatives of local religious communities.
Tomorrow, Archbishop Gallagher will lead the Holy Mass at St. Mary's Church.
The new church will be located in Yasamal district, on A.M. Sharifzada Street.
