The relations between Azerbaijan and the US have entered a new stage, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The president made this statement at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to results of socio-economic development in the first half of 2017 and objectives for the future, APA reported.

Stressing the importance of the letter sent by US President Donald Trump to the participants of the 24th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference in Baku, President Aliyev highly appreciated the meeting with the US Secretary of State which was held in Istanbul a few days ago.

"This year's 24th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference is a major event in the global energy sector. The most remarkable thing is that US President Donald Trump sent a letter for the event,” the president said. “The letter, which addressed me, added to the importance of the Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference and, at the same time, was another demonstration of US support to Azerbaijan’s energy projects. Of course, such a warm attitude creates favorable conditions for US-Azerbaijan relations to develop successfully.”

President Aliyev added that his meeting with the US Secretary of State in Istanbul a few days ago confirmed that US-Azerbaijan relations are of strategic nature and have entered a stage.
