The Zangezur Corridor project is being actively implemented in Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said at the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, APA's special correspondent reports.
“Regarding the transport sector, I would also like to note that the Zangezur Corridor project is being actively implemented in Azerbaijan. The project in the main part of the Republic of Azerbaijan is expected to be completed next year. Implementation of the project has also begun in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
“Our conceptual approach is that the Nakhchivan railway is, naturally, part of Azerbaijan Railways. Within this framework, we plan to establish an international consortium for companies and countries that wish to participate in the project, invest and receive corresponding revenues, while also having guaranteed volumes of transportation along this route.
“For your information, I would like to note that work is also underway in Armenia. Our American partners regularly inform us about this. According to the information provided to us, construction work in Armenia will begin either at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. However, the railway there is only 42 kilometers long, while the distance in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is 194 kilometers. Therefore, we have started the work and will complete it in any case.
“However, knowing that various companies are interested in this project, I would like to note that, should there be such interest, there is also an opportunity to participate in the planned consortium,” the head of state said.
