"We initiated the peace agreement with Armenia because we did not want eternal wars, and we did not want to take revenge," President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, APA reports.
"The Second Garabagh War of 2020 and the anti-terror operation of 2023 put an end to occupation. We fully restored our territorial integrity and sovereignty, in line with international law norms. After that, we offered Armenia peace. And this is also unprecedented. If you look at the history of wars, probably we will not see a case in which, less than two years after the last bloody clash, countries come to peace. The peace agreement, which was initialed last summer, was prepared by us. We were the initiators of the peace agreement with Armenia. Because we did not want eternal wars, and we did not want to take revenge. Though I think emotions should also be taken into account. I always say that we took revenge on the battlefield, and we should not go further. Because otherwise it will be an endless war," the head of state noted.
