Azerbaijan is not yet seriously feeling the effects of climate change, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at an event on the theme “Rebuilding Trust in a Fragmented World: The South Caucasus as a Pillar of Global Connectivity and Investment Stability,” held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in Baku, APA reports.
“I ski every winter, and I see that the level of snow in our mountains remains unchanged. Yes, it remains as it was before. Perhaps snow is melting somewhere, but this is not yet the case in Azerbaijan,” the head of state said.
The President noted that although the country has not yet been seriously affected by climate change, water scarcity and some other factors make it necessary to do more in the area of food security.
“A state program was adopted in May this year with the aim of significantly reducing dependence on imports. I do not know how interesting agriculture will be for the participants of this gathering. But I think there is great potential in this sector,” President Ilham Aliyev said.
The head of state said that there are currently certain constraints due to drought, shortages of diesel fuel and other problems in the supply chain.
“We do not rule out that some countries may face a dangerous situation in terms of food security. We want to avoid such a situation. Therefore, this sector could be beneficial for both local and foreign businesses,” the President emphasized.
