"Over the past 20 years, UNDP has supported ANAMA in clearing more than 850,000 landmines and other explosive weapons in Azerbaijan and assisted the safe return of more than 160,500 internally displaced children, women and men," said Nuno Queiros, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the opening ceremony of the "Support for increasing the capabilities of ANAMA" project, APA reports.

"It is great pleasure for me to be here with you today for the launch of such an important project. This project will help to save lives and allow IDPs to return to their homes," Nuno added.

UNDP intends to support ANAMA in training, equipping, and deploying emergency response teams to detect and destroy mines and unexploded ordnance. In addition, we will take measures in the field of development and preparation of maps in order to detect mines, purchasing demining equipment, dogs, and rats, creating well-trained and equipped gender-inclusive teams, conducting mine research as well as developing awareness materials and disseminating awareness messages on UXOs through digital channels

"Let me say once again that UNDP is ready to help the Government in accordance with the priorities of the government in order to solve restoration and reconstruction need in the territories damaged by the conflict. You can rely on our experience for sustainable economic growth, providing quality public and social services, environmental protection, and providing green transformation

I once again thank all of our partners for their support and participation in this important project which will help to build a better future for the Azerbaijani people," he said.
