"Immediately after the restoration of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the liberation of our borders from occupation, measures were taken to establish border protection infrastructure in these areas. Following the Patriotic War, 1 separate border division, 3 military units, 11 border command posts, 3 separate units, and 121 border combat posts of the State Border Service Border Troops in Zangilan, Gubadli, and Lachin districts started protecting the state border," Lieutenant General Araz Mammadov, Commander of the Border Troops, told journalists at a briefing held at the Shamkir border detachment of the Border Troops Command of the State Border Service, APA reports.
According to him during the 44-day Patriotic War, all forces and resources were fully mobilized to successfully carry out the combat tasks set by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief for the State Border Service: "After the liberation of the 132-kilometer section of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border by the military units of the State Border Service, for the first time, our forces advanced to the state border with Armenia, where they liberated the strategically significant heights of "Bartaz" and "Shukrataz." Immediately after the liberation of these areas, border protection was organized by the personnel of the Border Troops to safeguard the state border."
