The fate of 54 Azerbaijanis who went missing in the First Garabagh War has been a major worry of the Azerbaijani society for the past period, says the information released by Azerbaijan's State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, APA reports.

Noted that according to the information of 1998-2001, those 54 Azerbaijani citizens who were taken hostage during the first Garabagh war were visited by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in detention facilities in the territory of the Republic of Armenia and the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan that occupied then, and they were registered officially by ICRC.

But the bodies of 17 of them were handed over to Azerbaijan. The fates of 4 people are still unclear. It was reported that 33 people died, but their bodies were not handed over to the Azerbaijani side.
