Cybersecurity has already become a matter of national security, Elshan Hasanov, Head of the Cybersecurity Department of the Ministry of Defense, said at a sectoral meeting on “Cybersecurity in the Defense Sector,” organized by the Ministry of Defense Industry and the Azerbaijan Cybersecurity Organizations Association (ACOA) at ADEX 2026, APA reports.
He said that the Ministry of Defense has carried out significant work in the field of cybersecurity, particularly in the development of human capital.
According to the head of the Ministry of Defense’s Department, Azerbaijani servicemen participated for the first time this year in the NATO-organized “Cyber Shield” exercise.
He noted that special attention was also paid to the cybersecurity component during the joint military exercise involving servicemen from Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan: “The cybersecurity component was also taken into account in this exercise and was successfully implemented. During the first stage of the operation, the cyber operations group carried out activities against simulated terrorist groups. This was a great experience for Azerbaijani servicemen.”
Elshan Hasanov added that servicemen enhance their experience by participating in international and local events, as well as various professional development courses: “Along with the procurement of modern weapons and military equipment, their secure integration into existing systems is also of great importance. Our army is already acquiring modern and new weapons. The security of these weapons is one of the important issues, and we are working seriously on this.”
The Ministry of Defense official also noted that significant progress has been made in ensuring the security of critical information infrastructure. He emphasized that prioritizing cybersecurity issues in the process of digitalizing electronic services is one of the main areas of focus.
