Azerbaijan's State Commission: Remains of 17 out of 54 missing persons registered by ICRC were handed over to Azerbaijani side

The Azerbaijan's State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons cooperated with a number of international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross while investigating the missing persons who went missing during the First Garabagh war. During our correspondence with the International Committee of the Red Cross it became known that ICRC officers visited 54 Azerbaijanis while they were prisoners and hostages and they were directly registered by the Committee,” Eldar Samadov, the Deputy head of the Working Group of the Azerbaijan's State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons said to APA.

Eldar Samadov said that 17 out of 54 people died later and their corpses have been handed over to Azerbaijani side: “Although it was reported that 33 of the other 37 people died, their bodies were not returned to the Azerbaijani side.”

The deputy head of the Working Group said that no information was given about the fate of 4 people at all: “That is, today there’s no idea whether they are alive or were killed or were sent to somewhere."
