According to the Press Service of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), on April 13, 2023, a mine incident happened in the region of Sus village in the Lachin district in an area that had not been cleared of mines, injuring one civilian, APA reports.
ANAMA's investigation revealed that the incident occurred in an abandoned residential area, at the entrance of a private house.
The deliberate contamination of territory of no military importance by the Armenian side with mines and other explosive weapons is a clear example of mine terrorism.
As a result of ongoing operations in the liberated territories, it has been determined that civilian lands, devastated settlements, cemeteries, gardens, around water sources, and other socioeconomically significant locations have been heavily contaminated with mines. In the postwar period, 142 of the 290 people who were hurt by mine explosions died or suffered varying degrees of physical injuries as a result of such explosions that occurred in such areas.
Taking these facts into account, ANAMA once again appeals to our residents to utilize only safe route lines, not to divert from them, to carry out suitable activities, to be careful, and to behave responsibly in regions where demining operations are being carried out.
