Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Defense and Director General Agil Gurbanov held a series of meetings on October 2 on the sidelines of the 6th Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition “ADEX 2026,” APA reports.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense, Gurbanov met Greg Sawyer, head of the Office of the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs and War Policy, who was visiting Azerbaijan to attend ADEX 2026.
Gurbanov noted that Azerbaijan attaches importance to cooperation with the United States in military development, as in other areas, and highlighted the successful participation of Azerbaijani servicemen in peacekeeping operations.
Sawyer expressed satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan and the hospitality extended to him, as well as with the current level of cooperation between the two countries in defense, security and military-technical affairs.
The sides discussed the development of next-generation technology platforms, the exchange of experience in the production of modern technical equipment and systems for defense purposes, as well as prospects for expanding military-technical cooperation.
Captain Christopher Familetti, head of the Military Group at the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan, also attended the meeting.
Within the framework of the exhibition, Gurbanov also met Marius-Gabriel Lazurca, adviser to the Romanian President on national security and foreign policy, and Geunyung Park, Director General of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration and head of the Advanced Technology Program Department.
The sides exchanged views on the production of unmanned aerial vehicles, armed unmanned surface vessels and maritime systems, as well as other issues of mutual interest in the defense industry.
