The length of active military service during peacetime will be reduced by six months for officers called up from the reserve for compulsory service or those who voluntarily enlist for active service under contract.

According to APA, the provision is reflected in proposed amendments to the laws “On Approval of the Regulations on Military Service” and “On Military Duty and Military Service,” which were discussed at today’s session of the Milli Majlis.

Under current legislation, the duration of peacetime active military service is set at 18 months for officers called up from the reserve or those who voluntarily enlist, and up to three years for officers who voluntarily enlist under contract.

Under the proposed changes, the service period for officers called up from the reserve for compulsory active service or those who voluntarily enlist under contract will be reduced to one year. Upon completion of this period, they may be transferred to the regular officer corps by mutual agreement.

For foreign nationals and stateless persons who voluntarily enlist for active military service under contract, the service period will remain up to three years, with the option to conclude a new contract by mutual agreement upon completion.

The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the third reading.
