"Currently, we are discussing reducing the period of military service from 1 year and 6 months to a year," said Azer Babayev, Head of the Main Department of Real Military Service Conscription of the State Service for Mobilization and Military Service at today's meeting of the the Defence, Security and Counter-Corruption Committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), APA reports.
He said that main goal is to prevent all abuses: "The conscription is intended to be made only electronically, and all decisions are notified. This is also of great importance in ensuring transparency. However, we are revising another way to reduce the period of military service. Here, a distinction is made between those with higher education and those with secondary education. It is not right to distinguish between those with higher education and secondary education. They need to be equalized. The Constitution states that everyone must undergo military service, and there is no distinction between higher education and secondary education. But we are not ready for this yet. After this draft law is adopted, we can revise proposals in that direction."
