Armenia planted 1.5 mln landmines during the 30-year occupation, ANAMA Chair says

Mine is a very serious problem, an invisible enemy, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) said this at a briefing held on the occasion of April 4 - International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, APA reports.

He said that mines do not choose: "Mines do not recognize women, children, civilians, they spontaneously injure or kill. More than 60 countries of the world have suffered from landmines. More than 110 million landmines have been buried in the world. Azerbaijan also faced this problem." .

Vugar Suleymanov stressed that during the 30 years of occupation, Armenia buried 1.5 million landmines in our lands. He said that demining operations were started immediately after the liberation of our land from occupation: "Currently, these operations are continuing. Over the past 3 years, great works have been done and projects are being implemented. Our compatriots are gradually returning to their lands."
