Kremlin: EU membership initiative is Armenia's sovereign right

The Kremlin has commented on the Armenian Parliament's approval of the draft law on European Union membership in the first reading, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov called it Armenia’s sovereign right.

“It seems that there are certain political forces in Armenia that believe orienting towards the European Union will bring additional dividends for the country and its people. This is Armenia’s sovereign right. But, of course, Armenians themselves and everyone else will have to examine how mutual this desire is. How do the Europeans themselves view this? We are aware of the experience of many countries that have been placed on a long waiting list. A queue measured in decades... For now, we proceed from the fact that Armenia continues to receive dividends from its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union. These dividends are evident,” the Kremlin spokesperson emphasized.
