The implementation contract for the Rasht–Astara railway project will be signed in two weeks, said by Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, APA reports.

The Iranian minister noted that progress has been made on the Rasht–Astara railway project.

The minister said that along with the acquisition of land, the financial and legal matters of the project are also being resolved.

According to her, although Iran’s payment of 15 percent in the 1.6-billion-euro project had previously been a requirement, Russia has now accepted that this is no longer possible.

The minister stated that the details of the implementation contract are being prepared and will be finalized within the next month: “Despite minor delays related to legal matters, a visit to Russia to sign the contract is planned within 1–2 weeks.”

She emphasized that starting technical work in parallel will accelerate the construction of the railway.
