Azerbaijani Minister for Communication and Information Technologies to attend UPU Congress

Azerbaijani Minister for Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov will attend the closing ceremony of 24th Universal Postal Union Congress held in Geneva since July 23 in Switzerland, the Ministry for Communication and Information Technologies told APA-Economics.
The closing ceremony will be held on August 11-12. More than 190 countries, including Azerbaijan participate in the congress at present.
Member countries conduct discussions on important measures, which should be taken for the development of post till next congress in 2012. The congress will consider appointment of new UPU Chief Director, changes of composition of Postal Operations Council and Council of Administration. Azerbaijan has been nominated for membership in two councils. 40 from 193 countries can be member of the councils. Azerbaijan has been elected member of the Council of Administration during the 23rd Congress, but nominated Postal Operations Council for the first time.
UPU is held every four years. The 23rd Congress of UPU was held in Bucharest in 2004. Azerbaijan became a member of UPU in April, 1993.
